ABSTRACT This paper presents a single-chip transmitter for ultra wide band (UWB) wireless communication system based on impulse radio technology. It is implemented in a CMOS 0.18-mum technology with 3.3 V voltage supply. The transmitter can generate UWB pulse with 2 GHz bandwidth with 20-dB side-lobe rejection. The differential output swing is 7.2 V under 100 Omega loads. The average current consumption of the transmitter is 224 muA at 1 Mbps with the highest energy efficiency of 10.5%.
