ABSTRACT This paper presents the characterisation of ultra wideband (UWB) multipath clusters received by antenna arrays using the modified spatial correlation technique. When considering all spatial correlation coefficients in all directions, some remarkable time delays where variations of spatial correlation coefficients were clearly observed could be specified as time- of-arrivals (TOAs) of clusters. Furthermore, changing of traces of high correlation values at each time bin related to the reference array position could be used to estimate the angle- of-arrivals (AOAs) of multipath clusters. In order to verify extracted TOAs and AOAs of multipath clusters, comparison of both results with the Sensor-CLEAN algorithm was presented in this work. Finally, when employing the least- squares fitting of these distributions, variations of correlation decreasing rates related with distances and scenarios of propagation paths could be determined.
