ABSTRACT This chapter describes basic principles and protocols in the field of microdialysis combined with liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (LC/MS). We describe currently used separation methods coupled with MS and its application to in vivo microdialysis in the central nervous system. Newly developed strategies and analytical methods are discussed for the study of drug pharmacokinetics, neuropeptide metabolism, and treatment-induced or disease-specific effects on the “neuropeptidome”.
