ABSTRACT Electron emission statistics (i.e. the probabilities for a given number n = 0, 1, 2,… of emitted electrons) have been determined for ion-induced electron emission from clean gold, bombarded by various singly and doubly charged slow rare gas ions, for impact energies between 40q eV and 2q keV. In this way, new information on the involved emission processes could be obtained and, in particular, the contributions by, respectively, potential and kinetic emission could be unambiguously separated and investigated.
