Cardiovascular risk assessment in the asymptomatic individual: a case-based approach.
ABSTRACT Coronary artery disease remains the leading cause of mortality worldwide, and the identification of at-risk individuals represents a significant clinical challenge. In this review, a typical clinical case is presented, followed by a discussion of the cardiovascular risk assessment of such individuals. Specifically, the role of imaging modalities such as carotid intima-media thickness measurements and coronary artery calcium scoring is explored. Case resolution and recommendations are subsequently suggested.
