INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL JOURNAL OF STUDENTS RESEARCH 01/2012; VOLUME 2(1):24-30.

ABSTRACT Osteoporosis is characterized by low bone mass with deterioration leading to enhance bone fragility and risk of hip, spine and wrist fractures. Based on 2001 census, approximately 163 million Indians are above 50 and changes to increasing number to 230 millions by 2015. Treatment advances have elucidated the role of cytokines, parathyroid hormone inhibitors, nuclear factor KB (RANK) or RANK Ligand (RANKL) inhibitors.
