Abstract

We present total intensity and polarization observations at 6 cm of the high-redshift quasar 1857+566. It has an interesting asymmetrical structure with a normal radio lobe containing a warmspot on one side but only a jet without a prominent hotspot on the other. In addition, the ject exhibits two very remarkable bends along its path. The magnetic field lines appear to lie largely along its axis and also follow the bends. We briefly explore a few possible explanations for the morphology of the jet. Ram-pressure bending by intergalactic medium or the presence of relativistic precesing beams seems unlikely, whereas deflection of the beam by dense clouds appears possible. Sensitive X-ray & optical data are required to investigate this in detail.
