The V/V_m test in Hoyle-Narlikar conformal gravity
Journal Article: Astrophysical Journal 01/1983; 274:469-473.
Abstract
We apply the V by V_m test to samples of quasars chosen at 178 MHz and 2700 MHz in the framework of Hoyle-Narlikar conformal gravity. In doing so, we indicate how to treat world models with an unsual behaviour of flux density with redshift (for constant luminosity) and show that, given a uniform volume distribution of sources, V/V_m is distributed uniformly even for such world models. We find that the values of <V/V_m> for steep-spectrum, as well as flat-spectrum, sources are not significantly different from 1/2, the value expected for a uniform distribution of sources. Moreover, the distributions of V/V_m for the different samples do not show a bias toward either high or low values, thereby indicating a uniform distribution in comoving volume of both steep- & flat-spectrum sources in the Hoyle-Narlikar model.
