[more]The CAD cleaves the DNA in to 190 bp (or nucleosomes not sure which) fragments if thats what you ment by number of fragments, then you could identify characteristic apoptosis by running the DNA on gel. I 'll let you know more when I finish going through the text (revising my concepts again, thanks to your question, I feel excited again!!)Following

[more]1- No the process of Apoptosis doesn't proceed at same pace in different cells until unless they are in the same growth phase and have been exposed to apoptopic mechanism at the same time. 2- I don't know that there is a fixed number of fragments that nucleus would degrade to. 3- The number of fragments in various cells could be different but the way they degrade could be similar.Following

[more]I don't think apoptosis stops even if you put cells on Ice, they have already been programmed to to die when apoptosis begins, by putting in Ice you may slow down the enzymatic activity of proteases at most, but it wont stop cell death. As per freezing cells, you don't want ice formation inside the cells, because one water hits 4 degrees it starts expanding due to its anomalous expansion property, ice would rupture the membranes of the cells (due to crystal formation??). Hence you lower the temperature at rate of 4 degrees/min in a -80 degree freezer and then you put the cells in liquid nitrogen tank (cryoprezervation).Following
