My research is dedicated to cell death and survival in retinal degeneration including Leber congenital amaurosis (LCA). RPE65-mediated LCA is a rod-cone dystrophy characterized by severe retinal defects in the first decades of life. While Bax-dependent apoptosis triggers rod degeneration, the nature of cone dysfunction remains unknown. Identification of cell death pathways will contribute to a better understanding of retinal diseases and to the development of novel therapeutic treatments.
