ABSTRACT: This paper presents the latest developments of the Sismotecto project. The developed geodatabase aims to be a major tool to earth scientists, engineers, planners and civil protection agents as it provides support to an easier and more efficient means to store, manage and analyze seismotectonic data. This approach is required due to the scarcity of data concerning the slow fault activity observed in the West Iberia area, which generates unexpected large earthquakes with large recurrence intervals. The data is stored in a Microsoft Access database where different levels of information were arranged and related in order to meet project objectives. In parallel, it was developed a GIS platform (ArcGIS and MapInfo) where geographic datasets compiled in several layers at different scales, from regional to local, and linked to the database. This platform, which will be continuously updated, will deliver maps, data, and metadata to end-users ensuring an effective approach to the dissemination of project results.X Encontro de Utilizadores de Informação Geográfica, Oeiras; 01/2008 -
