Dr. Kasahara received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Hokkaido University, Japan, where he is currently a professor of pathology. He was a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Jan Klein at the Max Planck Institute for Biology, Germany, where he studied genetics of the MHC. His research interests include the role of the MHC in health and disease, as well as the genetics and evolution of the immune system. Professor Kasahara has been appointed dean of Hokkaido University Graduate School of Medicine since 2013.
