  I usually use "QIAamp MiniElute Virus Spin", "QIAamp Viral RNA" for isolation of RNA of virus and cultured cells. If you want you can use "RNeasy Mini Kit " (100 µg).

  I would like to obtein at least 2kb of viral RNA of stored samples on FTA cards. For the RNA isolation of the FTA card, I already used DEPC water and "QIAamp Viral MIniElute (Qiagen)". Then, I made cDNA with the "Transcriptor First Strand cDNA Synthesis Kit (Roche)" and the "Titan One Tube RT-PCR System (Roche)". As a result, I have only obtained products of 800pb. Do you have any suggestions for achieving 2kb or more? Thanks

  You could take some small circles (5; 7; 10, depend of your sample) of FTA card and resuspend in Water treated with DEPC (no so much), incubate for 30min RT with vortex each 10min. Take 200ul and proceed with QIAamp Viral RNA or QIAamp MiniElute Virus Spin.
