Chapter: Energy Saving Issue in Mobile Ad-hoc Netoworks
J Durga Prasad Rao, Arun Kumar Dey, Thakur Devraj Singh[show abstract] [hide abstract]
ABSTRACT: Next inventions of mobile communication will take in both infrastructure and infrastructure less known as Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANET’s). MANET is dynamically distributed system of self-configuring electronic nodes or devices without any fixed access point or base station (Topology can be changed). In MANET, there are no fixed base stations and here Nodes act as a flying router. All nodes can forward any data and essage. MANET’s is deployed specially for ruins conditions, such as Battlefields, Disaster, Recovery, Law en- forcement, Search and rescue in remote areas Where source of electricity is limited; also routes may avoid low energy. Energy consumption issue is especially prominent in MANET. There are two types of energy saving approaches: (i) By Power Consumption- Power consumption at the device level, transmission level, Routing Protocol level. There are three types of routing protocols for MANET, Proactive Routing Protocol (e.g.-DSDV), Reactive Routing Protocol (e.g. - DSR, AODV) another one is Hybrid Protocol (e.g. - ZRP). In recent years, various energy efficient routing protocols were proposed. However these protocols were not so good for saving energy. (ii) By using energy efficient protocol, we aim to save overall energy in all above level.
