As Associate Professor at University of Pernambuco (UPE), his current research interests are natural inspired metaheuristics, intelligent decision systems and social computation. Prof. Buarque heads the research group on Computational Intelligence and the PG Program on Computer Engineering. He is Senior Member of IEEE, Research fellow of the National Research Council of Brazil (CNPq), Visiting Professor at University of Johannesburg and Graduate Faculty of Florida Institute of Technology.
