In fact PACK behavior in captivity is indeed not well documented, as you are finding out. Debra's advice looks good. Also - WRT captive pack behavior, this is for hyaenas but the folks at UC Berkeley who have been doing years of work on 'their' spotted hyaena pack might be able to point you in the direction of similar work on African painted dogs. Keep us all informed! And I'll look up the id of the Berkeley folk and get back to you on that.Following
