[more]To begin with one could examine it with Constructivism because it was a social movement that got everything started…it involved the middle class and economic equality…but if the Egyptian Military had not turned it would have been drawn out like Libya and Syria…in the end though I think what we are seeing now is classic Realism…all sides vying for power with it appearing the Muslim Brotherhood taking the lead which will lead to a theocracy… in my opinion Egypt, with the rest of the “Arab Spring” countries, will not end up being democratic…I hate to sound so Hobbesian but this may all end up with Israel nuking someone…interesting days we are living in especially with the stupidity of the international leaders at this point in time…Following

[more]I think the players are changing…not only does the International Community have to deal with other States but now there are non-state actors and “Crazy States”…I think the so called “Arab Spring”, especially in Syria, is a good example of the “world powers” not being able to control everything…I am hoping in the future the United States will finally wise up and realize how advantageous a hegemon of the Western Hemisphere would be…but I will probably be waiting a long time…Following

[more]Here are some to get you started...most of them are from a paper I wrote last semester where I was examining the effectiveness of Plan Colombia…wish I had met you last semester because I did some surveying of Colombia Soldiers that were here in Columbus, Georgia attending the Western Hemisphere Institute of Security Cooperation (WHINSEC)…I tried to get some of my wife’s friends in Colombia, for the civilian view, to do a survey also but none of them sent it back…that left a big hole in my research =(…I am deciding now whether to write my dissertation on "Plan Colombia and its Effect on the Drug Wars in Latin America" or "The Bolivarian Revolution and its Threat to Democracy and Security in the Western Hemisphere"...plan on going to Colombia either this spring or at Christmas because I need to do first hand interviews and visit relatives…I am hoping that when I graduate in March that I can get a job with the US State Department or USAID in Colombia…need to be where my research is…may I also recommend a book written by one of my mentors Dr. Russell Ramsey called “Essays on Latin America” it is an outstanding book and he has written extensively about Colombia…let me know if I can help further… Bagley, Bruce Michael. 2001.
