I am a Research Assistant at the Dept. of Microbiology and conducting a research on genetic transmission of M. tuberculosis and molecular identification of B. pertussis. My PhD research was focused on molecular characterization of rifampicin resistant M. tuberculosis isolates in Sri Lanka by analysis of rpoB gene mutations and analysis of genetic transmission by DNA fingerprinting. PCR-ELISA was developed and evaluated for detection of rifampicin resistance as a reliable and economical method.
