My research examines how the brain engenders perception and sensory experience modifies brain circuits. We measure human perception with psychophysics and manipulate the sensory environment with an head-mounted 'altered reality' visual display system. We also investigate how experience-dependent brain plasticity can be exploited to treat sight loss after amblyopia ('lazy eye'), age-related macular degeneration and stroke - the "brain equivalent of a heart attack".
