  When i say that it went up to a few months , I mean they live a pelagic life during these periods, but they changed morphologically and phyically. Before they metamorphosis, they don't moult. I think you had better find some books about marine invertebrate and larval biology first,and then you can find the research papers related on Web of Science. You are welcome.   It is hard to say. It depends on species. There two type of larvae: Lecithotrophic larva and phytotrophic larvae. Usually, phytotrophic lavae can spend more time on swimming than Lecithotrophic larva. THe swimming period varied from a few hours to a few months.
