Question

why COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY is more effective on males than females and literates than illiterates.

I am research student,working on EFFICACY OF CBT FOR DEPRESSION.I am done with my data collection and my results show me a significant difference between males and females.In addition there comes the difference between literates and illiterates.I am supposed to give reasons behind this.

  • The constructs of males and females may be quite different. Also those of illiterates versus literates.
  • SB, I agree but would add that because of Sociological factors men are less likely to seek treatment or even admit they have a problem. This leads to under-reporting. No doubt there are significant anatomic and endocrine differences between the genders, but the psycho-social and attitudinal factors should not be underestimated.

    Additionally to what Donovan has said, there are more females, worldwide, who suffer with depression than men, consequently likely that more females per capita seek treatment therefore more likely there is a higher % that demonstrate effectiveness with a CBT treatment.
