How to calculate the chain code pair of the contour of an image using matlab?

I need to calculate the chain code pair of the contour of an image using matlab ie, not only the occurrences of the individual chain code directions but also the chain code pairs.

    We know something about 2-bit chain code and 3-bit chain codes of boundary contours. But I am yet to know about the term chain code pairs. Could you describe briefly about the chain code pairs to understand problem better?

    Thank you for your reply. I heard it from a journal paper that they took chain code pairs and triplets instead of taking the single code that we got usually using the freeman chain code.in chain code pair they show an 8x8 histogram in which both 8 were same and considered as direction.
