Question

Would you like to volunteer to help build a visual knowledge base for biomolecular interactions? http://vanburenlab.medicine.tamhsc.edu/volunteer.html

Some attractive features of this volunteer work:
•Impact: make an important contribution to your field quickly
•Convenient: this work can be completed anywhere you have an active internet connection
•Attribution: you will be appropriately credited for your effort
•Insight: you may gain some important insights about your field, both directly from your efforts and from using Congnoscente (the knowledge base) with your newly included entries
•Non-technical: entries are made with simple web-based forms, and there is no requirement for technical knowledge of computational systems biology

Gerard, thanks for your interest. Cognoscente currently only supports physicochemical interactions, but we are on a trajectory to add both functional interactions and concept interactions. The challenge for us is not so much about simply implementing that functionality, but how to do it in a way that produces comprehensible pictures. Additionally, we need to settle on good sources to serve as the foundation for that type of entry, as we don't want to start from scratch.

We have made some recent advances in the Cognoscente Knowledgebase: (1) over 100,000 documented biomolecular interactions have been added, bringing the total entries to to over 413,000, (2) we provide a new modality for drawing networks that only include the query genes and intermediates that interact with at least two query genes (Zeroth degree network + intermediates), and (3) we added some social networking buttons so you can share this resource with colleagues and follow relevant posts on Twitter. http://vanburenlab.medicine.tamhsc.edu/cognoscente.html
