JC-1 dye is well known for using mitochondrial membrane potential disruption detection during apoptosis. JC-1 entry is from the cell membrane to the cytosol to the mitochondria and forms aggregates. In apoptotic cells these aggregates leak out from the mitochondria to the cytosol as monomers.
A. Why will the whole JC-1 go inside the mitochondria first? What is the mechanism ?
B. Will JC-1 not be in the cytosol in normal cells while reaching mitochondria?
