Hormonal root induction in Ashwagantha, Withania somnifera, a medicinal herb

Withania somnifera is believed to have more than 64 alkaloids, however is a common medicinal plant in indigenous medicine, propagation through clones could help to propagate easily as seeds have dormancy. Is there any reference on hormonal root induction in Ashwagantha, Withania somnifera, a medicinal herb?

  • As far as I remember you can try adding IAA or IBA for root induction in MS medium. Try different concentration of those hormones. I read somewhere that combination of both the hormones might work better for rooting induction.

    Its quite interesting to hear that combination of both hormones works better. thanks for your information. we have tried with IAA and IBA directly applied to the cut end and planted in a pot but root induction was very less. lets try with MS medium.

    if you are trying to induce rooting in the cuttings for vegetative propogation try using IAA, IBA, NAA etc and some combinations like rootex are available in market. try using different concentrations of the above said hormones viz., 100ppm, 200 ppm, 500 ppm, 1000 ppm, 1500 ppm etc. also try stem cuttings of different maturity and at different seasons
