Question

How would a novice researcher pursue a mentor for nursing research?

I have a Doctorate in Health Administration and have not been successful in writing a journal article since graduation. I would like to research further my dissertation topic on the recommendations for further studies.

One question to start with - you note you have a doctorate in healthcare administration ( I do as well ) did your degree require you to have a dissertation ?? If so could this be the building block for research ?

    Hi Rick,
Yes I was required to have a dissertation. I started writing a journal article on my method of study which was qualitative. I could not develop it any further. I guess it is writer's block. have
you written an article based on your dissertation?
  • Rick Gannotta · Duke University
I did ( I need to upload it to my profile ) it was qualitative as well
"Perceptions of Medical Directors and Hospital Excecutives Regarding the Performance of Inpatient Integrative Medicine programs " - I accumulated data that supported the reserrach during my doctoral program which helped. All that too say - consider your disseration as a potential jumping off point for research

Certainly it is mandatory to publish. Nevertheless papers are the result of research. And research are generally performed on research groups, where you have companions and mentors. Most importantly, you have regular research work done. Then you have qualified people to discuss, work together, and learn from. Have you ever thought of joining one? Maybe you can join that of your original doctorate?
Maybe this link can help you to produce a publishable paper:

First be thorough with your research findings, strenghths and weaknesses, is it relevant and really need Then find out what are the need for you to continue to do research on your topic.,Then only you will be successful in continuing your research to be accepted by the community.

Go through literature review and you will identify how to write upto the point to be successful in writing to journals
    best wishes..

First be through with your findings in the first research and see whether itis necessory to do a research based on the reecommendations; whether it is justifiable to spend resources for that.then go through literature looking for similar thing and findings of them and the relavence of them to your topic.Cleary identify the mthodologyand go foreward. If it is really need and practically feasible in your enviroment, you will succeed.
    Best wishes

How far did you get with trying to write your article? Did you have a mentor in doctoral study? Often they will help with publishing and writing articles? I review for journals- and I would be happy to look at what you have written and give suggestions if you think that might be helpful. Wendy
