Hi, I am Pratima from India, a country which is caught between aspiration of becoming superpower and hundreds of internal problems.

Can we think of united, peaceful and progrssive Asia?

    Why not. Its already discussion is going on.. in different forum and several organization and civil society is organizing People SAARC Summit prior to SAARC country SUMMIT. The ideas is coming from all regions may help to unite, peaceful and progressive ASIA...

    Asia is a very complex region... but the historic tendency shows that the inmense region could achieve development without major conflicts, but it should be understanding between the whole region, in which are many cultures, different histories and different countries... Asia should learn about Europe and its war and conflicts history... Greetings from Mexico !!

    I agree with Eduardo about learning from Europe and it's history. But do not forget Balkan peninsula with also huge war history. From the Balkan and Europe first you can learn is what not to do because the history complexity of these two continents (Asia and Europe together with Balkan) is very similar. You have Gandhi in your history, once he said: learn very good your history, so you will not repeat the same mistakes in future.

    It is quite hard to make peace within so much different cultures, and also is qite hard to compare Europe with Asia, India can not become a superpower nowdays, China and America will rule the global scene at least 50 years from now. We can see also the ideea of UE, that was developed for maybe one 1000 years, and nowdays is almost to be broken...Even if some of the countries of Asia wanna make peace it will be difficult to achive such goal. Maybe it will last for severl years but not longer.

    there is no problem India becoming a superpower but it needs to address the problems like kashmir in accordance with the wishes of people living there. that will provide a moral boost to her claim to dominate the world throght the non-lethal weapons of ahinsa, democracy and respect for peoples's aspirations....no purpose will be served by amassing waepons of mass destructions but the aatma of Gandhi ji will be served well if path of peace,recociliation
    and fulfilling the promise made to people of kashmir is accorded to.....
