Abstract This report presents the process and outcome of a psychotherapy in a single-case study. This research describes the perception of subjective time in a process of successful psychotherapy. To do this, we proceeded to study process cognitively oriented psychotherapy, video-recorded and transcribed in all of their 18 meetings. Initially the encoding was performed with a qualitative analy- sis when six types of subjective times categories were identified, which were positive and negative, depending on psychological well-being. After that, two quantitative analysis were applied, the first consist in a content analysis allowed observed frequencies for the six categories, and secondly, cumulative frequency analysis which identified a differential pattern in the analyzed case.

ABSTRACT: This study approaches human encounter and the meaning construction that it unfolds, from a dialogical and micro-process perspective. Considering Valsiner's proposal (2007) a semiotic approach is taken. A Protocol of Analysis is proposed, which describes indicators that regulate the process. Moments of therapeutic dialogue with mothers of sexually abused children were considered in the study. The analysis describes mechanisms that promote the construction, that constrain and enable meanings in dialogue. The participants derived from the impossibility of action to the generation of alternatives in their lives, expressing inter and intra-individual variability of the signification processes. These intersubjective dynamics make possible self and culture joining in a reciprocal process of influences towards stability and change.

ABSTRACT: This current article provides a theoretical revision of the minor depression concept, in order to elucidate the gap and scope of this diagnosis, not yet known at the present. There is a confusion with it's definition, that can be revealed throught the different meanings in which it is approached, being even muddled with other clinical descriptions like depression and subsindromal depression. It is also discussed about the dimensional and categorical dichotomy in approaching the meaning of depression, in which a logic of continuous tendency appear. In this tendency of hesitating from euthymia to major depression where minor depression is in both poles. It is suggested intensity rather quantity of symptoms as a key element for its understanding.

ABSTRACT: This study aims at assessing the influence of the theoretical-technical orientation in the personal style of the therapist. 60 psychotherapists from psychoanalytic, cognitive and integrative orientation were studied. The Assessment of Personal Style of the Therapist Questionnaire (PST-Q) of Fernández-Álvarez & García (1998) and an exploratory interview about orientation and performance created for this study were administered. To assess the influence of the theoretical-technical orientation over the personal styles of the therapist, the multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used. The obtained results show statistically significant differences in the personal styles of the therapist according to theoretical-technical orientation, showing a characteristic profile if the orientation is psychoanalytic, cognitive or integrative. The results are especially relevant for the psychotherapist professional practice.

ABSTRACT: The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) is a widely used instrument in clinical practice and for research purposes. This study aimed to determine a cut-off score for STAI state and trait anxiety scales that differentiates between healthy adults and those with anxiety disorders. A total of 180 patients took part in the study; 80 patients were part of the control group, and 100 were part of the study group. The study group consisted of those with any type of anxiety disorder as assessed by a semistructured clinical interview by a psychiatrist based on DSM-IV criteria. The control group consisted of people with no diagnosis of any type of anxiety disorder. Cut-off values for the scales were determined using receiver operating characteristic analysis. This study found that a cut-off value of 41 was optimal (sensitivity=78.3; specificity=71.2) for the STAI-I and, a value of 44 (sensitivity=93.5; specificity=57.4) was optimal for the STAI-II.

ABSTRACT: The interest for the study of forgiveness is related to personal and interpersonal benefits that follow it. In this paper we investigated the use of empathy in interventions to promote forgiveness. The method was a systematic review in the databases Pepsic, Lilacs, PubMed and PsycInfo, using the descriptors "Forgiveness and Intervention" and "Forgiveness and Therapy". The sample consisted of 20 articles, which were read, tabulated and analyzed. The results showed that in 90% of reviewed studies empathy was a resource used. We concluded that the promotion of victim's empathy by the offender is a key mechanism for obtaining forgiveness.

ABSTRACT: Numerous investigations have demonstrated inverse relationship between the level of psychological well-being and risk behaviors in adolescents. Objectives: a) to measure level of BP through the scale of psychological well-being for Young, Bieps-J (Casullo, 2002), (b) to assess presence of addictive behaviors with questionnaire of risk behaviors in adolescents, CORAL (Míguez, 2006), (c) Analyze the relationship between low level of BP and vulnerability to drug addiction. Methodology: quantitative research, descriptive, non-experimental design cross in intentional sample (n= 381) of adolescents from Mendoza, both sexes, 15 to 18 years. Results: a 78,21 % has a mean level of psychological well-being. There is no evidence of illegal drugs, but we identified specific psychological indicators of vulnerability to drug addiction in low level of psychological well-being.

ABSTRACT: The purpose of the study was to identify possible changes in the emotional state of people affected by a progressive and degenerative visual disease, associated to the progression of age and gender. 46 volunteers participated (from 20 to 65 years old) distributed in three groups of ages. They were evaluated with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (Spielberger et al., 2002), the Beck Depression Inventory (Beck et al., 1979) and with a sociodemographic variables questionnaire. The findings showed an increase in anxiety levels from youth to middle age. An increasing in the age was associated with an increasing in the depression levels, especially in men; standing at the mild level of depression, in the oldest age group.

ABSTRACT: The main objective of this study is providing information on the influence of emotional intelligence as a protective factor against compassion fatigue in therapists. The sample was composed of 158 Argentine psychologists and psychiatrists, working in the clinical area. The participants completed a sociodemographic characteristics test, Trait Meta- Mood Scale (TMMS-24), the Empathy Exhaustion Scale (ESAPE) and dimensions of perspective taking and empathic concern of the Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI). The data found by multiple linear regression analysis reveals that emotional intelligence is related to compassion fatigue, the dimensions of attention, and emotional repair proving to be especially important in the explained proportion of variance in vulnerability and professional involvement.

ABSTRACT: The study had two goals: 1) To analyze differences as a function of gender and age in sexism and in feelings of anger; and 2) To study the relations between both constructs. Using a descriptive and correlational methodology, two instruments were administered. The sample comprises 802 participants, from 18 to 65 years of age. The results confirm: 1) significantly higher scores in the males in sexism; however, no sex differences were found in feelings of anger; 2) In sexism, some stability was observed between 18 and 54 years of age, with a significant increase as of 55 years; however, feelings of anger showed no changes with age; and 3) Positive correlations between sexism and anger.
