
Job Description
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology, University of British Columbia, invites applications for a tenure track position in the areas of pathogenesis, virology,
or immunology, focusing on the use of disease models to study the pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions, and immune responses to infections. Priority would be given to individuals who bridge
multiple areas and use integrative, cutting-edge approaches.
Requirements
Applicants must have a PhD as well as an outstanding record of research accomplishments. Evidence of teaching effectiveness would be an asset. The successful applicant
will be expected to develop a strong externally-funded research program, effectively supervise graduate students, and teach undergraduate/graduate courses in virology or immunology.
Opportunities
The successful applicant will have the opportunity to interact with a large and diverse community of immunologists, microbiologists, and cell biologists at UBC and will
become a member of the Life Sciences Institute, a world-class group of scientists studying cellular and molecular biology. As such, they will have access to state-of-the-art flow cytometry and
imaging facilities as well as the Centre for Disease Modeling (CDM). The CDM provides capabilities for the generation of genetically-altered mice, the use of rodent models of disease, and
biosafety/containment level-3 work. The successful applicant will also be able to interact with established research groups and facilities including the Facility for Infectious Disease and
Epidemic Research (FINDER), the Advanced Structural Biology for Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (ASTRID) group, the Centre for Tuberculosis Research (CTBR), the Genome Sciences Centre, and the Centre
for Drug Research and Development (CDRD). Significant start-up funds and exceptional mentoring will be provided.
Appointment will be at the assistant professor level and is subject to final budgetary approval. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
