Job Description

  • Support in the maintenance of the laboratory mouse colony.
  • Administration of the mouse colony by keeping track of and performing maintenance breeding and weaning of approximately 15 different strains of mice, many with multiple genetic mutations and frailties.
  • Organization of mouse colony information on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Isolation of mouse DNA for genotyping by PCR and Southern analysis.
  • Dissection from mice of normal and cancerous tissues including bone marrow, spleen, lymph nodes, thymus, brain, and liver and mammary gland.
  • Preparation of genomic DNA, RNA and protein extracts from mouse tissues.
  • Preparation and culture of fibroblast cell lines from mouse embryos.
  • Molecular biology and cell biology techniques supporting various projects.
  • Molecular biology techniques such as the isolation of plasmid DNA, isolation of DNA fragments in preparation for DNA ligations, restriction enzyme digests, preparation and transformation of competent bacteria.
  • Standard and Real Time PCR of chromatin immunoprecipitation extracts and RNA.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires an Associate's degree in botany, biology, zoology or other science related scientific field.

Experience

None required above education/training requirement OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Competitive Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of full-time experience in a research laboratory setting.
  • Individual must be highly organized and detail oriented, show initiative and ability to multi-task, possess good communication skills, and be willing and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Experience with experimental design, execution, and analysis, and standard mammalian cell culture and molecular biology methods are desirable.
  • Solid knowledge of computers is important, as is ability to become proficient with new software applications and databases
