ABSTRACT: A non-destructive method for measuring moisture within porous building materials is presented. It is based on the detection of the backward angle scattered gamma-rays of a 241 Am source, with a LaBr 3 :Ce scintillator detector. An example of application of this method is given by measuring the moisture in bricks (building material) with various water contents. The method is suitable for the examination of building walls (houses, historical monuments) and of building material samples.Romanian Reports in Physics 04/2011; 63:61.
